Varsity Numbers
Every Oxford and Cambridge Blue has a number of their own. Here are all of them, from No.1 in 1880 to the newest Blues.
One number for every Blue
Each runner who has represented Oxford or Cambridge in a Blues race has a Varsity number. The numbers run in the order in which runners first raced for their Blues team, alphabetically within each year, in four series: Oxford and Cambridge, Gentlemen and Ladies. The wartime races of 1940 to 1945 have numbers of their own.
Numbers come from the Runner Database. Select a name to see that runner’s profile and every race they ran.
Numbers are taken from the Runner Database workbook (Varsity Nos sheets), kept up to date to 2025. If a runner from an earlier year is found, they are added in the right place and later numbers can move up by one. If you spot a mistake, please get in touch.
